National Road Victim Month 2022

Published: 1st August 2022

Today marks the beginning of National Road Victim Month – a campaign held annually in August, organised by RoadPeace, to remember the people that have been killed and injured on our roads.

The charity RoadPeace designated August as National Road Victim Month in order to commemorate the lives of both Princess Diana on 31st August 1997 and Bridget Driscoll, who was the first person to be killed by a motor vehicle in August 1896.

Since this date, half a million people have been killed on Britain’s roads. It is also estimated that around 5 people are killed and 60 people are seriously injured on Britain’s roads every day.

Further to this, according to The Department for Transport, in 2021, 1,390 road deaths and 23,140 serious injuries were reported from road accidents. These shocking statistics illustrate the need for action to be taken to make our roads safer and raise awareness of the importance of road safety.

Why we support National Road Victim Month

We feel passionately that each person who is injured or killed in a road accident, is recognised as more than just a statistic, therefore raising awareness of this through supporting National Road Victim Month is very important.
